The conflict began in December 1845 when Mexico under Arista were free from Santa Anna's
rule.The Americans thought the border was at the bottom of Rio Grande that seperated Mexico and Texas. The Mexicans thought it was North of Rio Grande. Then in April 1846 Aristas men fired on General Taylor's men at the border and won. Polk who was anxious for California
so he declared war on Mexico.
The war started off well for the Mexicans as they surronded Americans at Fort Texas Iin early may ,General Taylor furious, ran to Fort Texas only to be stopped by Arista at Poli Asti. The armys fought equally but when Mexico retreated Americans routed them. At Buenta de Visa the Americans won big on the Mexicans. In June Mexico who was licking their wounds witnessed 15,000 Mexicans being killed as the Americans got California on June 15. The Americans accomplishing their main goal now wanted to end the war as quickly as possible.
The Americans blockaded Mexicoand it looked like the War was over but Santa Anna came and
told Americans he would make peace if let into Mexico. Instead he replaced Arista as commander and escaped the blockade. Then in late Febuary in San Antonio Santa Anna
won huge and marched to Monteremy and Shiloh where Taylor would lose more troops
then Anna but won the Town. Anna accepted a lose but Taylor negotiated a tie. Despite winning big at Shiloh Polk furious replaced Taylor with Scott to end the war quick.

At Buenta de Visa Scott proved that he was better then Taylor by killing over 1000 mexicans when just over 200 americans fell.The victory sent the Mexicans to Puebela their second biggest city if they lost they would be on the brink of defeat. They got routed by a very large amount 600 troops. Anna took his army fo one last defense of Mexico City.

The Mexicans fught with great heart and the battle was close but the Americans won forcing Anna to surrender the WarScott would go home a national hero and Anna would go back to exile the Americans got California and the Rio Grande. This war would eventually be a training camp for Jackson,Lee, Grant,Mcclean and Scott for the Cival War.
